Acorn
Against my better judgement, I still occasionally have some contact with
Acorn RISC OS machines. Here's some of the wreckage resulting from these
encounters:
-
I maintain the comp.sys.acorn.networking FAQ,
a compendium of knowledge to do with making Acorn machines talk to each
other and the world. If your browser can hack it, you may be able to read
the group.
-
If you use Econet, a network monitor can be a handy tool to have on your
side. I wrote a freely distributable one for RISC OS machines (prior to
the RiscPC), and you can get it here. The
source is semi-freely available; mail
me and ask if you want it. Porting it to the RiscPC should be a simple
enough task if anybody is interested.
-
Something else I wrote is an EconetA module
to allow you to run TCP/IP over Econet networks. It's somewhat obsolete
now, because it only works with DCI-2 stacks (Xemplar
provide one for DCI-4) but might still be useful for somebody. The source
code is freely available too, though I don't recommend it as an example
of good programming practice.
-
With rather more enthusiasm than common-sense, I wrote a TCP/IP implementation
for the BBC Micro, so you can use old 8-bit machines as telnet terminals
over Econet. The ADE+ source code is available here
though it can be a bit touchy about who it works for. Let me know if you
have any luck with it. Sadly, it's not compatible with the new DCI-4 EconetA
module.
Aaarrgghh!
